I had it working on a Dell 470, but ever there, the drivers were pretty unstable, and the performance was not much of an improvement on a much lower spec'd Nividia GeForce 8800 (a card which is probably about 2 and a half years old now) Trawling the internet, there seems to be a lot of people having issues with this card and ATI drivers. When I try to install via the Device Manager, I can find the driver, but then Windows again comes up with some kind of "can't communicate with this card" message. For some reason, Windows 7 is only recognising the card as a "standard VGA display adaptor". I'm still suspicious that it has something to do with the Dell T7400 motherboard. especially for a 256 Mb card) as I need to get on with things. I've now had to revert to the Nvidia card (which fortunately is quite usable. but nothing actually got installed it would seem.
It went through the motions of installing. It did then allow me to run the Catalyst Install Manager. I tried the ATI Mobility Manager, and am pretty certain I followed the procedures correctly. glad to see someone has got this card+drivers working Though it does seem it amends the ATI files rather than any Windows 7/Dell files
I'm very reluctant to install some 3rd party work around in case there are issues in the future when upgrading various things. though I see someone has used this on a Desktop I've checked out the ATI Mobility Manager. I thought this might be to do with the card going in to low power/energy saving mode when not used too much for a while. though every few days, the monitors would flicker quite violently for a few seconds, then settle down again. I suspect this is related to the T7400 motherboard, because I've recently had the card working in an older Dell 490 (though I had to remove Catalyst because it wouln't work properly with 2 monitors). When I tried to install manually, via the Device Manager, it would find the driver file, but then tell me it "couldn't communicate with the card" (or words to that effect) but it crashes immediately the Catalyst Install Manager starts its routines (annoyingly you don't seem to be able to install ATI drivers without it using the Catalyst Install Manager. I've tried seemingly every combination and trick to install it. blue screen and then some error message saying it's probably a bad driver). even tried with some version 8.9xxx), the machine crashes. But for whatever reasons, when installing the ATI drivers (9.12, 10.1, 10.2. The Nvidia FX570 that came with it works fine.
I've been having a bit of a disaster trying to install an ATI 5770 in a Dell T7400 that I recently got.
